Schenectady Heritage Foundation advocates for historic preservation in a variety of ways. We support:
- Historic District zoning laws
- Zoning protections for historic buildings and districts
- Code enforcement to stop demolition by neglect
- Preservation and adaptive reuse as economic revitalization tools
- Heritage tourism
We work with appropriate government agencies and non-government organizations:
We comment at public hearings, correspond with government groups, write comments for Environmental Impact Statements, and closely follow applications to the City of Schenectady’s Historic District Commission. We also write opinion pieces for various media, comment on various development projects and/or government policies, and initiate or join legal action when warranted.
